At the beginning of August, Concordia received a $50,000 gift to help with the unexpected student safety costs and the rising need for tuition assistance. The family wants to inspire generosity in the entire Concordia family by also proposing a matching gift challenge for another $50,000. Every donation toward the Back to School Challenge, no matter the amount, will be matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000!
The family shared their motivation: “We are thankful to be able to do some good with the blessings we have been given. We love Concordia and want as many students as possible to safely attend school at Concordia this year.”
With your help, we have an opportunity to raise a total of $150,000 by Oct. 1, 2020 in support of the following needs on campus for this school year:
- Student Safety Enhancements
- 5 - Water Bottle Filling Stations around campus
- 60 - Medical Grade Filtration H13 True HEPA Filter Air Purifiers for entire campus
- MERV-13 Air Filters for Concordia’s HVAC system
- Tuition Assistance Fund
In the face of the many challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has presented our ministry, we are excited to begin our 37th school year, offering both on-campus and online education options for our 540+ students. Many safety protocols have been put into action on campus to protect our students, faculty, staff, and community. When the budget was set in January 2020, these items were not planned, but they are now necessary for our ministry to move forward safely, allowing us to continue to share Jesus with our students on a daily basis.
We recognize how the world has been upended by the pandemic. Families all across Houston, the United States, and the world have been faced with business closings, layoffs, furloughs, salary reductions, and limited hours. Many have been stretched in ways they couldn’t have imagined. Last school year, 10% of our students needed tuition assistance due to a variety of reasons in order to attend Concordia. This year, we have already reached a record high in tuition assistance applications, so we anticipate a record high in percent of Concordia students receiving some assistance.
Whether you are able to give $50, $300, or $5,000, please prayerfully consider making a gift that will allow as many students as possible to safely attend Concordia during the 2020-2021 school year. While the world is constantly changing, one thing that remains the same is the saving grace of Jesus Christ our Savior. This has been the foundation of Concordia’s 36-year history and will continue to be our cornerstone in 2020-2021 and beyond.
