Concordia NHS Hosts Spring Blood Drive Honoring Chelsea Schleicher

Each year, Concordia’s National Honor Society (NHS) partners with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to host a blood drive each semester. NHS is a nationwide organization for high school students with member selection based on four criteria: scholarship (academic achievement), leadership, service, and character. NHS requires service to the community, school, or other organizations. We are thankful that our NHS club continues to choose the importance of helping save lives through blood drives!

NHS officers promoted the blood drive on campus, handled the check-in process, and ushered students to and from their classes when it was their time to donate.

The spring semester’s blood drive was held in honor of Mrs. Chelsea Schleicher, wife to CLHS Director of Advancement, Mr. Jonathan Schleicher. Mrs. Schleicher is an 8th grade language arts teacher at Trinity Klein Lutheran School, one of Concordia’s many feeder schools and has taught several of our current CLHS students.

In Aug. 2022, Chelsea gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Selah Joy. During an emergency c-section, Chelsea lost 40% of her body's blood supply in less than 90 minutes due to postpartum hemorrhaging. She needed an emergency hysterectomy and four blood transfusions in an hour to prevent her organs from shutting down as her hemoglobin numbers had plummeted from 13 down to 5. The doctors and nurses at Houston Methodist - The Woodlands helped save Chelsea's life that day, and everyone that donates bloods also are HEROES as your donations DO save lives!

If you were unable to donate blood yesterday, but would like to in the future, visit a local Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. At check-in, give them the code “2665” and your blood donation will count toward Concordia’s NHS totals! Visit https://www.giveblood.org/ to sign up today!
