Concordia Lutheran High School Announces Major Campus Expansion to Enhance Student Life and Ministry

Concordia Lutheran High School (CLHS), a private, faith-centered college-prep school, announces its Setting the Stage (STS) expansion project—a faith-driven initiative designed to enhance academics, athletics, fine arts and agriculture programs. This project reflects CLHS’s mission of “Building Lives of Excellence Upon the Foundation of Christ” by creating purposeful spaces for the diverse talents of its students.

With the 42-acre campus currently at full capacity, including a freshmen class with around a record enrollment, the STS expansion will feature 75,000 square feet of impacted space, including 45,000 square feet of new construction. The project, expected to be completed by early 2027, addresses critical needs across multiple programs.

Todd Eklund, Head of School, said, “Our current facilities have served us well since the school transitioned and built upon our current location thirty years ago. However, with current and projected future growth, it’s clear that modernized spaces that truly match the talent and dedication of our students are needed. This new complex will not only solve longstanding scheduling challenges, but will also create an environment where our students can holistically thrive in personalized and team endeavors.”

The STS expansion includes a new indoor athletic complex with two full-length courts, an auxiliary practice gym, locker rooms, athletic training and weight rooms, an event venue hall, classrooms and concession facilities. The fine arts renovation will create dedicated band and choir rooms, a black box theatre, a scene shop, five practice rooms, offices, storage, music libraries and a renovated rehearsal studio.

Additionally, the agriculture program will benefit from a renovated instructional kitchen with cooking stations and commercial ovens, plus new labs for veterinary science and floral design courses, providing students with hands-on, industry-relevant learning environments.

Currently, CLHS’s athletics rely on a single gymnasium built in the mid-1990s for 200 students, now serving over 550. The new state-of-the-art athletic complex will solve scheduling conflicts for volleyball and basketball teams, allow for tournament hosting as well as renters requiring multiple courts.

CLHS’s fine arts programs are also growing rapidly. Both the band and choir currently share a 2,000-square-foot music room that struggles to accommodate daily use, lacks adequate acoustics and forces students to practice in hallways and gyms.

Jonathan Schleicher, Director of Advancement, said, “This expansion is a powerful step toward fulfilling our vision for CLHS as a place where creativity and faith walk hand-in-hand. The upgraded fine arts and athletic spaces will provide students the room and resources they need to explore their gifts fully and prepare for future success, all while glorifying God through their talents.”

To mark the start of this endeavor, CLHS will host events all month long during September for current parents, alumni parents, alumni, grandparents, friends of Concordia, ministry partners, and community members including:

  • Students and staff at Concordia as well as invited guests and community members will experience the first event, a formal groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 9 a.m. featuring student and staff involvement in formally moving the dirt.
  • Current parents will learn more about the project and have an opportunity to also move some dirt at Meet the Teacher on Wednesday, Sept. 3 from 6-8 pm at Concordia.
  • Alumni and Alumni Parents will have their opportunity to share in the groundbreaking fun and learn more about the project at the Concordia Alumni Network Homecoming Tailgate on Friday, Sept. 12 from 5-6:30 pm in the Concordia Cafetorium.
  • Grandparents and Grandfriends of Concordia students will learn more about the project and have the opportunity to fill some CLHS letters with dirt at our Grandparents Night Out Tailgate on Friday, Sept. 19 from 5-6:30 pm in the Concordia Cafetorium.
