the year with well-earned 2's in jazz and Dixieland, 1's in both handbells groups, and all 1's in band and sightreading to earn Sweepstakes. That added to the 26 solo 1's and 9 ensemble 1's last month gave us the victory! We finished with a total of 562 points with the 2nd place school at 381. I wish you could have seen the faces of the band students (especially the Seniors) when I told them – it was a special moment many years in the making. I’m really proud of the hard work of all these kids. So many of those solos and small ensembles were them taking the initiative and working hard on their own without me outside of class.
Thanks to many of you teachers for your work with band students and their studies as well.
