2015-2016 Henderson Cup Final Results from TAPPS

Concordia Lutheran High School (CLHS) finished Henderson Cup Runner-Up for 2015-2016 with 84 total points. Defending champion, Argyle Liberty Christian, finished with 106 points to beat CLHS by 22 points.

CLHS finished with the 2nd Highest Fine Arts points total with 43 (nine behind Argyle’s 52). The Crusaders also finished with the 9th Highest Athletics points total with 41 combined points.

- 10th Highest Boys Athletics Total (20 points; Houston St. Thomas had the highest with 55 points)
- 9th Highest Girls Athletics Total (21 points; Houston St. Agnes had the highest with 59 points)

Overall, Argyle won five of the 26 state championships and was runner-up four times to claim the Henderson Cup trophy this year. Argyle recorded points in 18 of the 26 different events while CLHS recorded points in 16 events (6/7 Fine Arts, 4/10 Boy’s Athletics, 6/9 Girl’s Athletics).

Concordia had a strong season by winning two state championships (Band and Choir) and finished runner-up in three events (Academics, One Act Play and Boy’s Swimming).

Fine Arts Points Key to Henderson Cup
The top two teams in the Henderson Cup race dominated the Fine Arts events. Argyle and CLHS finished 1-2 overall as well as 1-2 in Fine Arts totals. Argyle (52) and CLHS (43) finished well above San Antonio Antonian and Dallas Bishop Lynch who both finished with 18 Fine Arts points.

Argyle and CLHS recorded points in 6 of the 7 Fine Arts events (Academics, Art, Band, Cheerleading, One Act Play and Choir; both schools did not score in Dance Team). The next closest schools, Dallas Bishop Lynch and San Antonio Antonian, recorded points in only 4/7 and 2/7 Fine Arts events respectively.
 

Stacking Up to Last Year
Looking back at last school year, CLHS finished 3rd in the Henderson Cup race with 90 total points behind San Antonio Antonian College Prep (97) and Argyle Liberty Christian (116). This year, CLHS leapfrogged Antonian by 6 points to finish overall runner-up.

Point totals for the top three schools could not match their point total from 2014-2015. Argyle dropped 10 points from 116 down to 106. CLHS dropped six points from 90 down to 84. Antonian had the biggest drop in point totals of all the TAPPS 5A schools by dropping 19 points from 97 down to 78.

About the Henderson Cup
The Henderson Cup is an award that measures a school’s entire extra-curricular offerings and awards points for State Tournament/Competition finishes.

There are 24 schools that compete in the TAPPS 5A Division (highest division for the state’s largest private and parochial schools based on enrollment).

The Henderson Cup features 26 different extra-curricular events in Fine Arts and Athletics. The seven different Fine Arts competitions include the following: Academics, Art, Band, Cheerleading, Dance Team, One Act Play and Choir. There are 10 Boy’s Athletics (Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Swimming, Tennis, Track & Field, Soccer and Wrestling) and nine Girl’s Athletics (Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball and Soccer).

Together, we combined to earn the highest school finish in the Henderson Cup since 2010-2011 when CLHS won the Henderson Cup TAPPS 4A Title. From Academics, Athletics to Fine Arts, our Crusaders represented us very well around the state of Texas.
